PLUS Program Celebration

Almost 300 students and family members attended the year-end event for the PLUS program on April 26. This year, more than 180 students participated in the afterschool program at the three elementary schools and middle school. The celebration included pizza and cotton candy, break-dancing entertainers, and activities such as face painting and kickball. The PLUS program is coordinated by Student Services to boost the success of students in grades kindergarten through eighth grade and prevent school dropout. Community Services staff provide recreation programming support.

Last Day of Youth Center for 11-12

GED Testing Available May 17

GED testing will be offered from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, May 17, through Northfield Public Schools Community Services. Testing is held at the Northfield Community Resource Center (NCRC 2nd floor), 1651 Jefferson Parkway.  Pre-registration is required and testing costs $120. More »

Truck and Tractor Night

Explore police and fire vehicles, heavy equipment and even a race car at this event, from 6:15 – 7:45 p.m. on May 7 in the Northfield Community Resource Center parking lot. More »

2012-13 AmeriCorps Positions

SummerVentures Parent Orientation

Check out the Community Services SummerVentures day camp program at parent orientation from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. on April 17. There will be registration materials and pool pass information available at Longfellow School room 102. Child care will be available and parents can enter a drawing to win a free week of camp. Skating School Partnership with Community Services a Win-Win

In 2011, Northfield Skating School Director Carey Tinkelenberg and Community Services Recreation Coordinator Erin Mayberry began a collaboration resulting in success for both the organizations and area kids. U.S. Figure Skating recently featured Tinkelenberg’s story in their “Club Spotlight.” Please note: older articles have been archived at the bottom of the page.

Summer Classes Available to View

Summer classes for ages birth to senior are available online for viewing as you begin planning your summer. The brochure will be mailed and registration will begin on April 20. More »

New Buildings & Grounds Director

Paul Bell has joined the Northfield Public Schools as the new director of buildings & grounds effective March 26. Bell brings a wealth of experience to the district, including his most recent role as a building operations manager for Hennepin County where he managed nine county facilities. Prior to that, Bell served as a building engineer for Elk River Public Schools.
