Adult Basic Education (ABE) services are provided through Dakota Prairie Adult Basic Education Consortium – serving the communities of Northfield, Farmington and Randolph. Adults must be at least 16 years of age, not enrolled in secondary school, and functioning below the 12th grade level in any of these areas: reading, writing, math, and speaking English. Official GED Testing
Official GED testing is available in English and Spanish monthly at the Northfield Community Resource Center/Second Floor. Preregistration is required by calling 507.664.3764 or 651.460.3211. A fee is charged for testing.
GED Preparation Classes
General Educational Development diploma (GED) is a national high school equivalency test that includes a set of five tests: Math, Reading, Writing, Social Studies and Science.
Adult Diploma Classes
Eligible adults take classes leading to a high school diploma. These classes are in collaboration with the Northfield Public Schools Alternative Learning Center.
Basic Skills Enhancement Classes
Eligible adults work on basic skills such as work-related math, functional literacy, reading or writing assistance. Classes are held with GED Preparation Classes at the Northfield Community Resource Center.
Prepare for Post-Secondary Education Classes
Eligible adults work on transition to post-secondary education skills to include preparation for the ACCUPLACER exam. Classes are held with GED Preparation Classes at the Northfield Community Resource Center.
English Language Learning Classes (ELL)
Classes are for learners whose native language is not English. The ELL program includes beginning, intermediate and advance level classes, conversational classes, multi-level classes, and distance learning classes. Classes are offered at Greenvale Park Elementary and Northfield Community Resource Center.
Family Literacy “Family School” Classes
Family School Classes are for adults and their children, ages 0 to 5 years of age. Instruction for adults includes ESL classes and Parenting Classes. Children participate in educational and developmental classes. Classes are held at Northfield Community Resource Center (NCRC).

Weekly registration for GED classes:
- 9 – 11 a.m. & 5 – 7 p.m. Thursdays at the NCRC
Weekly registration for English language (ELL) classes:
- 6 – 8 p.m. Mondays & 9 – 11 a.m. Tuesdays at the NCRC
