Rescheduled – An Evening of Books, Music & Cinco de Mayo Celebration

The Northfield Middle School will be hosting an evening full of books, music and Cinco de Mayo fun, starting at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 6. Middle School Dance!

Hey Northfield Middle School, it’s time for the last dance of the year! The dance will be on Friday, April 26th from 3:00-5:00 pm. Tickets are $4:00 and concessions will be available for an added charge. Rides must be at the school at 5:00 sharp!

Mother’s Day Book Sale

The Northfield Middle School’s student run bookstore, The Tattered Pages is now accepting book donations for the upcoming Mother’s Day Book Sale.  The sale will kick off the evening of May 2nd in conjunction with the annual Cinco de Mayo Celebration at 5:00 p.m. and the Spring Choir Concert at 7:30 p.m.  The book sale will continue to run during school days through May 10.  Needed items include gently used books suitable for mothers/aunts/grandmothers (students will be selecting gifts for their English and Spanish speaking family members) and all types of gift items that would make good Mother’s Day presents, such as stationary, music compact discs, candles, etc. more>>

INCOMING SIXTH GRADE PARENT MEETING AT NORTHFIELD MIDDLE SCHOOL

Parents of current fifth graders are invited to an informational meeting on April 16th at 6:00 p.m. in the middle school auditorium.  Principal Jeff Pesta, Assistant Principal Greg Gelineau, student support services staff, and other staff members will share information about the transition to sixth grade.

The agenda will include:

Student Placement:  The process by which students are placed on 6th grade teams and into courses will be described.
WEB Orientation Event:  Everything that parents need to know about WEB (Where Everybody Belongs) will be previewed.
Student Responsibilities:  A quick overview of what to expect during the middle years will be presented: homework, base teachers, lockers and more.
Math Placement: A middle school math teacher will review the math curriculum and course pathways. For more math  placement information CLICK HERE.
Miscellaneous:  Activities, music and co-curricular programs will be highlighted.
Parent Volunteers:  Our volunteer coordinator will share the process for visiting and volunteering at the middle school.

New this year, students are invited to attend.  Students will get building tours and information about 6th grade.

Change to NMS Spring Sports Start Dates

Registration forms for spring sports will be available online and in the main office beginning Monday, March 18th. All registration forms and fees must be turned into the main office before an athlete can begin practice. The last day to register and begin practice is Friday, April 5th.  Weather permitting, the first day of practice will be Thursday, April 4th. Athletes should come to practice prepared for chilly weather. Dressing in layers works best. Practices will be 3:00–4:45 pm, Monday – Friday, unless specified otherwise by the coach.

Student-Led Conferences

This year, both 6th and 7th grade students will lead their parent-teacher conference, which will be set by appointment on February 28 or March 4. A faculty facilitator has been assigned to host the event. CLICK HERE for a glimpse at a sample student-led conference.

NMS 6th Grade Orchestra

The 6th Grade Orchestra from Northfield Middle School performed at the Minnesota Music Educators Association Midwinter Clinic on Thursday, February 14.  This music teacher’s conference is held each February at the Minneapolis Convention Center.  The orchestra students assisted Terry Shade, a nationally-known string clinician, by demonstrating playing techniques and a string technique book to an audience of string educators.  Their participation in this clinic was a service to Minnesota string teachers, and a rich educational experience for each student.
