Academic Support

We have several academic support resources at the middle school. Homework Help is after school, from 3 – 4 p.m. We also have a Study Center where college students are available to assist middle school students with homework and projects. Counselors also provide individual and group support for students who struggle with their academics. Please contact your classroom teacher and/or school counselor if you have concerns about your student’s academic performance.

Study Opportunities at Northfield Middle School

  • The Study Center offers tutoring for students who need academic assistance during study hall. Please contact the guidance counselors if you have questions.
  • The Middle School Youth Center (MSYC) is a free after-school program where students can find homework assistance, skills workshops, recreation and cultural activities. Visit Community Services for more information.
  • Carleton Tutor Hotline offers tutoring through the ACT program (Acting in the Community). The service offers students a chance to receive tutoring from Carleton College students. To arrange for a tutor, please call 507.222.5595. This is a voice mailbox, so leave a message and program staff will return your call. You can also access the hotline at www.carleton.edu. Click on Campus offices, then ACT office. Then click on Youth Tutoring. The tutoring service does not fill requests during the college’s breaks (summer and Thanksgiving - New Year)
  • Science Help Sessions are offered by the 7th grade science department after school on Thursdays or by appointment.
