The Northfield weather station was awarded to the high school by KSTP TV 5 and Minnesota E85 (Ethanol) Service Stations. The WeatherNet system is comprised of 86 schools in the KSTP TV5 viewing area and over 6000 schools nationally.
WeatherNet is managed by AWS Convergence Technologies, Inc., based in Gaithersburg, MD.
The weather station can measure up to 27 parameters including temperature, humidity, wind speed, wind chill, wind direction, precipitation and barometric pressure. The weather station captures local weather data, sending this information to KSTP TV5 and other schools in the WeatherNet system. The high school students will be able to participate online, in meaningful lessons in meteorology (science), statistical analysis (math), as well as geographical applications.
